HARTSVILLE — Tristian Spann scored a game-high 22 points to lead Hartsville to a hard-fought 57–53 boys basketball victory over Lamar on Tuesday night at Hartsville High School.

Hartsville set the tone early behind Spann, who sparked a 6–0 run as the Red Foxes jumped out to a 6–2 lead, forcing an early Lamar timeout with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Spann poured in eight points in the opening period as Hartsville’s aggressive defense disrupted Lamar’s offense and forced multiple turnovers. The Red Foxes held a 13–7 advantage after one quarter.

Lamar answered in the second period, rallying to take a 19–18 lead with three minutes left before closing the half on top, 24–20, heading into intermission.

Hartsville quickly regained momentum in the third quarter. A dunk by Derion Gattison tied the game at 24 early in the period, igniting the home crowd. The Red Foxes followed with a barrage of three-point shots, opening up a 39–30 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Lamar refused to go away, trimming the deficit to four points at 55–51 with 32 seconds remaining. Hartsville, however, closed out the game at the free-throw line and with key defensive stops to secure the 57–53 victory.

In addition to Spann’s 22 points, Kayson Dawson added 13 points for Hartsville. Derion Gattison finished with eight points, while Dorian Mason scored six, Zaries Huggins had four, Justin Hines added three, and Zion Mason chipped in one.
